The COVID-19 pandemic has had everyone locked away in their homes, social distancing for nearly a year already. To say we have cabin fever on a national level is an understatement. With the rollout of the vaccine in its early stages, the possibility of traveling very soon is a welcome prospect for many people – and we will likely be at that point just in time for spring break!
But if you are like most people, you might be concerned about the ‘Quarantine 15’, a reference to the weight gain that many people experienced throughout the last year. But don’t sweat it, we’ve still got a few months before bikini season, and with some helpful strategies, you can rock your 2021 spring break bikini.
1. Rock what you got!
Like we have stated before, Strange Bikinis firmly believes that all body shapes and sizes should be embraced – and every woman is beautiful as they are. It’s always great to have fitness and health goals, but no matter where you are on the spectrum of meeting those goals, you can take the opportunity to embrace who you are in this moment.
And in this moment, I am sure you can think of at least a few things that you love about your body. Find a swimsuit that accentuates those features and run with it. Spring break is about de-stressing and having a blast. You shouldn’t be worried about how you look in a bikini. Everyone else there is either 1) too concerned with their own insecurities to notice what you perceive as your flaws, or 2) too busy having fun to notice!
2. Get a Bikini that Fits Your Body
Every body is unique, and they come in all shapes and sizes. Understanding your body is the key to finding the right bikini. It’s worth taking extra time and waiting for one that fits perfectly because, unlike other clothing items, bikinis can’t be altered.
It’s a great idea to go to a professional and have accurate measurements taken if you are considering ordering a bathing suit online. There are so many bathing suit options that no one should settle for a suit that they think only looks okay. Everyone can find something they think looks great if you take the time.
3. Find a Swimsuit you LOVE
Most women have owned many swimsuits. But when you talk about swimsuits they truly loved, many of us can only recall a few. Take some time before spring break to shop for a new suit and find a bikini you genuinely love. Now is a great time to do it; most of us have saved money by not traveling or engaging in other recreational activities over the past year so we can splurge a bit to get something that we truly love. And when you are wearing something that you love, your confidence naturally gets a boost – and that is always an attractive trait.
When shopping for a new bikini, it’s a good idea to consider how it looks now, as well as the overall quality of the suit. Bargain suits might look great the first few times you wear them, but they often don’t hold up well after a few washes. It’s often a far better investment to purchase a more expensive – but higher quality – suit. They last longer and look great throughout their lifetime, meaning you get more bang for your buck.
4. Focus on Health
Looking great – either wearing a bikini or in general – isn’t solely a function of being thin. It actually has a lot more to do with being healthy than being skinny. We often hear that people give off a ‘healthy glow’ when they feel great, which is true. When we eat right, get enough sleep, and exercise regularly, our bodies function better. Our skin, hair, and nails are healthier. We don’t have bags under our eyes. And our smiles are bigger and more genuine.
For many Americans, focusing on health often means getting more fit. Spending extra time exercising and concentrating on parts of your body that you think need a little work is an effective way to overcome insecurities and feel more comfortable in your skin. But it’s also important to realize that the way you perceive your body is often far harsher than the way others perceive it. While getting fit and staying healthy are important goals, you have to balance this with an understanding that your body is likely a lot closer to perfect than you think it is!
5. Have Fun
Having fun is similar to having confidence. Others perceive it as an incredibly attractive trait. When you think back to individuals you have been attracted to, there is a high likelihood you can remember them being fun. When you are having fun, it’s infectious. And no matter the details of your bathing suit or your body, your attitude will be what people remember. Don’t forget that spring break is all about having fun – be sure that you accomplish this goal!
6. Spend Some Time on Your Overall Beach Look
Feeling great in a bikini has a lot to do with feeling great in general. And with spring break being the first trip many of us are taking in a very long time, it’s worth spending a little bit of time re-evaluating your entire look. It may be time to try out a new hairstyle, get a pedicure and manicure, or even get a spray tan. All of these actions can enhance your overall look and ensure that once you put that bikini on, you will feel like a million bucks.
